Police Officer Candidates
I conduct appeals evaluations for police officer candidates throughout the region. Some departments I’ve worked with are NYPD, State Police, NYC Hospitals, and others.
I am originally trained in a State Police department, utilizing research validated assessment practices and following the POST dimensions of suitability for law enforcement candidates. This can make my reports more compelling with departments, and give candidates their best chance for success with an appeal.
Candidates who are wrongfully disqualified often have strengths which were not emphasized in their initial department psychological interview. Their initial interviews often fixated on one “problematic” issue, while failing to obtain a comprehensive evaluation of the candidate.
I work with candidates to understand their strengths and to help mitigate concerns the department had about them. My process includes repeat psychological testing, which can significantly strengthen my report when the department receives it.
I spend enough time with each candidate to understand what elements of their background were held against them, and how we can provide missing context in order to alleviate concerns for the department.
